The federal government owns roughly 28 percent of the 2.27 billion acres of land in the United States, with the vast majority of that federal land concentrated in western states. The Committee will broadly examine federal land management with a focus on maintenance priorities, impact on states, return on investment and the impact of litigation. The Committee will conduct oversight of NARA's management of government records and the procedures NARA is putting in place to handle and archive records generated by new technologies, including social media.
Prominent hearings and investigations
The Committee will also examine the status of our nation's merchant marine, including the current condition of the ocean-going fleet in the foreign trade. In addition to its oversight hearings, the committee has maintained a strong schedule of policy and fact-finding hearings, while holding very few legislative hearings. The committee was unusually active in the 113th and 114th Congresses ( ) under Chairs Darrell Issa (R, Cal.) and Jason Chaffetz (R, Utah), with each holding twice as many investigative hearings as the committee did during the two prior Congresses.

The Committee will examine and evaluate the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) and its progress in facilitating private-public information sharing. Federal agencies spent over $81 billion in fiscal year 2014 buying, operating, and maintaining information technology products, services, and systems. Many of these systems fail to deliver the productivity gains that were expected, or worse, simply fail. The Committee will review the federal government's information technology procurement and management policies to ensure that taxpayers are getting the maximum return for their money.
The Committee will focus on problems at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in an effort to minimize the amount of taxpayer money misspent through Medicare and Medicaid. Changes in technology present government agencies with new possibilities and new challenges. The Committee will continue to monitor agency misuse of technology and identify oversight failures.
The Committee will review the impact of federal IT mandates under laws such as the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), the E-Government Act of 2002 and the Clinger-Cohen Act. The Committee will seek input from government employees on the front lines of procurement and implementation to determine whether these mandates have improved data security, public access, and IT enterprise planning – and at what cost. This oversight plan contains a detailed list of matters for oversight and investigation that will advance the Committee's mission to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and all its agencies. The Committee will retain the flexibility to investigate instances of waste, fraud, and abuse as they emerge, and to conduct oversight of other issues as appropriate.
Despite the recent overall contracting spending trend (which is largely attributable to the overall budget and the U.S. policy to decrease the U.S. presence in Afghanistan and Iraq), challenges remain in contracting spending. The Committee will seek to ensure that controlling spending does not have a negative impact on contract oversight and administration. To that end, the Committee will investigate waste, fraud, and abuse in federal contracting.
The Committee will also look to ensure the size and composition of the federal workforce is driven by critical needs. The Committee will consider reauthorization of the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Office of Government Ethics. The Committee will investigate allegations of waste, fraud, and abuse in the grants process within specific federal agencies and examine efforts to adopt consistent government-wide policies for grants applications and reporting.

Later, we wandered down the beach to find a young yacht crowd, groups of friends who have rented their boats, all knee-deep in their mojitos.

Ambassador is a new cruise line where trips begin in cities around the UK, including Liverpool, Belfast, Dundee and Bristol. Both Ambience and Ambition have 89 dedicated cabins set aside for solo travellers, available “at a special single supplement against the equivalent twin fare based on selected single cabin categories”. The operator journeys to a vast range of destinations considering there are only two ships in its fleet, with voyages going as far as Singapore, Brazil and New Zealand. The ship has a nice-sized main pool on the Lido deck and two aft Infinity pools. Carnival Celebration will also celebrate the line's history by integrating pieces from former Carnival ships into its decor. Guests can start trying to spot these homages as soon as they step onboard, as many will be located in the Grand Celebration atrium zone. Celebration's new Grand Celebration zone will be responsible for setting guests' expectations as soon as they step foot onto the ship.
Entertainment options
Like every state-of-the-art cruise ship, Carnival Celebration has shops for just about every need, from souvenirs and toothpaste to high end jewelry and watches. Exclusive to the ship is an EFFY jewel line created by Carnival President Christine Duffy and a first-for-Carnival Luxury Vintage Boutique that features repurposed classic Chanel, Dior and other vintage accessories and couture. For the ultimate escape, the Serenity Pool on forward Deck 18 is your best bet and while it is really more of a glass tub than a proper pool, Havana Club guests have access to a small pool overlooking the sea from Deck 8. The Tides Pool at the aft end of Deck 16 is slightly less frantic but also prone to a lot of traffic and sun loving crowds. The Patio Pool area on aft Deck 8 is a bit more low key but it, too, enjoys its share of traffic from the bars and dining venues in this part of the ship.
There is a challenging ropes course and a games court for hoops but strangely not yet, pickle ball, which seems to be the new rage on many big cruise ships. There is also a running track but with all the traffic, it can be more like an obstacle course. You won’t go hungry on the Celebration, even when you’re not paying extra for the specialty restaurants.

So I believe they will have to offer tickets to this venue so it can be used in a more organized manner in the future. I applaud Carnival for using this space to its fullest, but it may have been too much of a good thing in this small space, and I hope they will utilize the larger seating theater for the high-demand shows in the future. Both the Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras have this fantastic new stage in the new large atrium area of the ship.
The Grand Spectrum Theater on forward Decks 6 and 7 is an excellent venue with state-of-the-art sound, lighting and sight lines. The drawback here is that it is too small to accommodate peak demand, meaning that there are usually lines to get in and that even if you arrive on time, there may be no seats. Other big shows here included “Showtime”, “Celestial Strings” and “We Are One”, the latter with an inclusive, international theme.

And Havana cabins also make an appearance, with their own private pool that I actually thought offered the best views of any pool onboard. The main activity on the interior of the ship goes from Deck 6 through Deck 8. These three decks run the length of Celebration, with everything from theaters to restaurants to shops to a pool (Deck 8).

I had the pleasure of sailing aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Carnival Celebration. Our sailing was one of her first from Port Miami, I was invited to sail as a guest with a media group. Our itinerary was a seven-night cruise from Port Miami, and we sailed a Western Caribbean cruise itinerary with port stops in Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Mahogany Bay. In this review, I will be sharing my opinions after sailing aboard this fantastic new ship from Carnival. Carnival Celebration will be the second vessel in the line's Excel class of ships, preceded by Mardi Gras which in 2021.
Other signature facilities in the area are Beach Pool (midship) and the infinity swimming pool Tides Pool (aft) with a bar, great stern views and ample seating. Lido-Pool Deck also houses deck parties and Dive-in Movies (at Carnival Seaside Theater/outdoor cinema). Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has a specialty restaurant (located in The Gateway/ Deck 6 portside). Lagasse is the chef and owner of 11 different restaurants, including 4 in New Orleans. The Center Stage theater in the middle of the ship is another good example. Since it’s not set up like a normal theater, there just weren’t a ton of spots to sit down and still see the stage. During our cruise, we found the food to be very good across the board. Special mention should be given to Emeril’s Bistro 1397, where we had a shrimp poboy ($7) that was fantastic. We also thought that Big Chicken could go toe-to-toe with any chicken sandwich you find on land. Latitudes is another addition, with drinks from all over the world, and a travel theme complete with a flipboard like an old train station that displays changing messages.
